Tuesday morning, Dan, Amanda, Raf, and Natalie went to Mega (a Wal-mart
competitor) down the street and picked up some buckets and tools for
creating sandcastles. Amanda had issued a sandcastle challenge the previous
night! We all went to the beach early in the afternoon and relaxed for a
while before the competition began. Amanda and Natalie worked on one, I
helped my brother Dan, and John later started his own. After a while, a few
cute little Mexican kids were attracted to our building sites as the castles
began to take shape. I believed you can't have a good sandcastle without a
moat around it, so I worked on that initially. Dan created the castle walls
and we dug out the interior. After a while, I looked over at Amanda and
Natalie's castle and I thought it looked too similar to ours (without the
moat), so I considered a change of direction. I thought we should fill up
the inside with tons of sand, build it up, and go big-time! I guess this
ultimately turned out to be a bad decision. It took a lot of work and many
trips to bring in water from the ocean and build up the huge sandcastle
without it getting too dry and unstable. Meanwhile, John was constructing a
small Mayan-like temple that looked pretty cool. In the end, ours didn't
quite turn out like I had envisioned it because we didn't have enough time.
I was sore and tired from piling up so much sand. We just didn't have the
detail on ours to make it impressive, so Dan decided to trounce it and we
turned it into a giant volcano. Amanda and Natalie's castle was smaller
scale but had more details and tiny buildings and trees, so theirs turned
out well. When we were all done, we gave our buckets and tools to a couple
of the little Mexican kids that had been watching us so they could keep them
and make their own castles. On the way back from the beach, we ate dinner
early at Carboncito's, a Mexican food place. Our plan for tonight was to go
on a booze cruise to Cancun and back, so we returned home and prepared for
that.
Libby didn't feel like having another long night out, so John called up
Antonio and the 7 of us went to this resort/hotel place where the bus would
leave from. There were 2 other people going from Playa, a Canadian guy and
girl. Halfway to Cancun we'd also be stopping at another place to pick up 3
more girls from New York and Connecticut, so altogether there were 12 of us.
Everyone loved Antonio's singing of "My Humps." He's great at making
everyone laugh and have a good time! Eventually, we arrived in Cancun. As
part of the $75 deal, we'd be splitting time at 3 bars: Congo, Senor Frogs,
and Coco Bongo. All of our drinks were free through the organizer, Joel,
unless we wanted something special.
Things started off a little slowly at Congo. The 2 Canadians sat at their
own table and were a little quiet, but eventually a couple people talked to
them to make them feel more comfortable. It wasn't clear if they were
dating, friends, or family. I thought the girl was really cute though, so I
wanted to find out. Anyway, the coolest thing at Congo was this little show
a professional bartender put on. He made this flaming drink and spit it out
above his head, popping a string of balloons. He did some other little
stunts too like lining up a set of glasses with glowing shot-glasses and
pouring them together all at once by pushing the first one like a set of
dominos. Then they dropped all this confetti and started a congo line and
sent balloons flying everywhere. It was a good start, but then we were soon
off to Senor Frogs. On the way there, my brother John and I started talking
with the Canadians more. I found out they were just brother and sister and
the girl's name was Lindy. Game on! Haha!
At Senor Frogs, the wildness level was taken up a notch or two. There was
music here and tons of people dancing and some grinding, but it wasn't
nearly as ridiculous as Senor Frogs in Playa had been. Everyone here seemed
a little older. There was also a built-in pool. The Senor Frogs
party-people convinced some of the girls to jump into the pool and start
dancing all wet. That was definitely not something I see every day, LOL!
There were some other oddities like a tattoo and piercing place upstairs by
the bathrooms. We danced a little and enjoyed more drinks, but we were all
anticipating the last stop, Coco Bongo.
When we first set foot in the main part of Coco Bongo, I was amazed! The
place was HUGE and it was very crowded. When we entered, there was already
an acrobatic show going on directly above the main floor. It was a Matrix
show, with people flying through the air, spinning around, and mimicking
scenes from the movie. They also had a Spiderman and The Mask shows similar
to this later in the night. In addition, they had a raised stage with some
non-acrobatic shows too. One was a Moulin Rouge show with girls in lingerie
exactly like the recent music video. There was also a Michael Jackson show,
but honestly I don't remember much of that one due to my alcohol intake and
the many distracting girls around. They dropped giant balloons at one point
too, which people would smack and send them flying through the air to
another section of the club. I remember dancing with Natalie and Amanda,
and even Lindy. Along with some other girls, Lindy was brought up on the
main stage and the bar between shows to dance at various points of the
night. Apparently she wasn't the shy girl we all thought she might've been
at first. Overall, everyone in our group was drinking, dancing, and
definitely having a blast! On the way home, I spent most of the time
talking to Lindy and her brother Brent and learned a lot about them. They
were both very cool and fun to hang out with. After all the others were
dropped off and we were almost home, I was pretty drunk and excited when I
saw the Mega by John and Libby's place. Apparently I kept trying to tell
the driver to turn right on the next street even though it was one way.
Allegedly, I also kept talking about Lindy before we all passed out for the
night. I don't remember these events clearly but that's what I was told and
made fun of about the next day! I do remember John throwing up and asking
for the water treatment though! There's some great pictures of Antonio and
Natalie's possible Christmas card from Coco Bongo too. This was a very fun
night and my favorite so far.
